Introduction to Kung Fu Classes are offered in Northern Shaolin and Northern Praying Mantis style Kung Fu. Kung Fu can be distinguished from other martial arts by its circular movements. Rather than meeting a force head on, Kung Fu practitioners utilize spines, twists, and sweeps to propel an opponent away from the point of attack. One of the primary goals for training in Kung Fu is increased self-confidence obtained through mental discipline and concentration and the emphasis on physical conditioning. The man, woman, or child who learns to defend him/herself against a larger and stronger opponent through the skilled and sometimes spectacular movements of Kung Fu learns something of value about himself. There is much more to the experience of Kung Fu than high kicks, board breaking and Chinese terminology. Northern Shaolin Kung Fu is an external style directly descended from the system taught at the Shaolin Temple. Shaolin, meaning young forest, has historically and culturally been regarded as the greatest Chinese temple boxing style. It is one of the five major systems developed in Northern China. They include Wa, Cha, Fa, Pao and Hung or Shaolin. Benefits of Martial Arts Training Physical benefits:
