The MATT Program is an action-based, 10 week therapeutic program for youngsters 7-17 who may be experiencing behavioral, emotional or attitude difficulties at home or in school. The MATT Program introduces youngsters to a positive physical experience in discipline to help develop self-discipline through instruction and training in Tai Chi, combined with a structured group process led by a licensed psychotherapist skilled in Tai Chi to help transfer this to other areas of their lives to achieve success.

The instruction in Tai Chi promotes good health, focus, concentration, positive self-esteem and achievement in a positive atmosphere geared towards learning and change. When youngsters learn that discipline is necessary to master the movements of Tai Chi they are helped to understand how necessary self-discipline is to master success in life.

The MATT Program has enjoyed success on children and adolescent psychiatric hospital units, in residential treatment programs and Houston area schools for many years helping youngsters turn their lives around. MATT is now offered in Kingwood as a ten (10) week counseling program that has already been proven to have a positive impact on youngster's lives and their families.

What is THE MATT PROGRAM?
The MATT Program concept uses the instruction and training techniques of Tai Chi and the therapeutic strategies, and problem solving skills of counseling and therapy, in a highly structured program.ÊThe result is a structured therapeutic program to form an action-based approach that provides youngsters with a positive physical experience in discipline to help them learn the self-discipline needed to succeed in other areas of their lives.

What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is an ancient exercise system that was founded around the 13th century. Tai Chi was developed to increase the life span by promoting good health through regular practice and mental discipline.

Tai Chi is characterized by its slow paced, graceful, rhythmic movements that require a great deal of focus concentration, and discipline. although Tai chi is considered a martial art, it is taught as an exercise system for its many benefits.

Here's what parents are saying about the MATT Program:

"Tai Chi has helped my daughter to slow down and do breathing exercises instead of acting out." (The mother of a 5 year old.)

"Since joining the MATT Program, our son's self confidence has increased significantly. Through Master Green's positive gentle leadership his natural martial arts abilities have shined and brought out his own leadership qualities. It has been a thrill to watch him help his classmates and them help him! The students have all worked together, encouraging one another as they have gone through this wonderful program." (The mother of a 13 year old.)

"I don’t know where to begin to explain the difference we have seen in my grandson since joining your class. There were no overnight miracles or instant behavior changes but over the 10 weeks that he has been in the MATT Program the changes have amazed me. "At first I thought he just wasn't getting it, then all of a sudden he was moving with such concentration that I would never have believed I would ever see. I really appreciate how you talk to the children and you make them responsible for themselves and their actions. I feel this is the best thing we could have ever done for him as well as ourselves. This is better than any medicine they could give him and I am hoping that by continuing with Tai Chi classes that someday he can be taken off his ADHD medicine." (The grandmother of a 7 year old.)
